UK Chief Instructor to Schools of Kung Fu by IWKA (Master) Sifu Alan Paterson has many, many years’ experience in Martial Arts. He began his Martial Arts journey with Judo at the age of 9 where he trained over a period of 7 years and represented Surrey in their schools squad and also trained Jiu-jitsu. Sifu Alan decided to take a short break from Martial Arts to concentrate on weight training before he found what he was truly looking for, Wing Chun Kung Fu. As a child in the 70’s Sifu Alan Paterson was inspired by Bruce Lee and the TV show ‘Kung Fu’. He started his Wing Chun journey learning Yip Man Wing Chun, the joining Grand Master Keith Kernspecht’s organisation, the EWTO, which was part of the Leung Ting Wing Tsun system in 1998.

As a student he in the EWTO he attended many seminars in the UK and abroad which included those held by Grand Master Keith Kernspecht the chief instructor of EWTO  and Grand Master Leung Ting the Chief Instructor of IWTA. He travelled to attend seminars across Europe including, Keel and Frankfurt in Germany, Lervenro Italy plus Vienna, Austria. In 2006 Sifu Alan had the great pleasure of travelling to Hong Kong and training at Grand Master Leung Ting’s school and including private lessons with Great Master Cheng Chuen Fun.

Sifu Alan opened his school in 2005 which is based in Croydon teaching both children and adults, he has worked tirelessly with his personal development and that of his students.  Sifu Alan left the EWTO in December 2007 to join Sifu Sergio, Sifu Alan’s Journey continued under the guidance of (Grand Master) Sifu Sergio Pascal Iadarola who was Chief Instructor of the then IWKA.

Sifu Sergio, the International Chief Instructor for Schools of Kung Fu by IWKA, is an inspiring figure and has great passion for Wing Chun Kung Fu and Chinese Internal Martial Arts. (Master) Sifu Alan Paterson has had the great pleasure of many private lessons with Grand Master Sergio in London, Amsterdam (Netherlands), Italy and in various locations around Hong Kong including Sifu Sergio’s school on Hong Kong Island. In May 2018, after a two week intensive training in Hong Kong with Sifu Sergio, Sifu Alan was awarded his 5th Technicians Level of Master by Grand Master Sergio.

Sifu Alan Paterson’s journey continues as the UK Chief Instructor of Schools of Kung Fu by IWKA and runs one of the largest and most successful Martial Art Schools in the UK, Schools of Kung Fu HQ in Croydon, which is open seven days a week with a large team of instructors under him.

Sifu Alan Paterson consults with Total Care Security in their close protection course for unarmed work, teaching and training people who are taking their close protection SIA badge Unarmed Defence.

Sifu Alan also has a great relationship with the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) based at the London South Bank University. Sifu Alan has had the privilege of meeting with the Chinese Ambassador and being an advisor to the Chinese Government for teaching and education methods for children and has also organised (and attended) many cultural trips to Mainland China and Hong Kong with the Confucius Institute.

Sifu Alan Paterson continues with to work with local schools and the community. With the help of his students and instructors at Schools of Kung Fu HQ in Croydon has helped to raise a great deal of money for different charities which includes: Demelza Children’s Hospice, Kidscape anti bullying charity, Cancer Research UK and the Michael Palin Centre and Action for Stammering Children. Sifu Alan continues to support local schools with Self-Defence workshops and Anti-Bullying assemblies promoting the benefits of Chinese Martial Arts and Wellbeing.
