Nicholas Brace began his martial arts journey in the summer of 2008 at the age of 19. In search of a new hobby and practical self-defence skills, he was introduced to Wing Chun Kung Fu under the guidance of SiFu Alan Paterson. Although initially nervous, Nicholas was quickly inspired by the welcoming and supportive environment created by his instructors and fellow students. This encouragement transformed a casual interest into a lifelong passion for martial arts.

As he trained, Nicholas dedicated countless hours to refining his techniques, improving both his physical skills and mental discipline. His commitment to Wing Chun Kung Fu deepened as he recognised its profound impact on his confidence, focus, and resilience. For Nicholas, Wing Chun became more than just a self-defence system – it evolved into a journey of personal growth and self-improvement.

In recognition of his dedication, skill, and ability to inspire others, Nicholas was appointed Head Instructor of Schools of Kung Fu Portsmouth in 2021. His passion for helping others discover the benefits of martial arts is evident in his teaching. He believes that Wing Chun is a powerful tool for personal development, offering confidence, discipline, and practical self-defence skills for people of all ages and abilities.

Nicholas remains committed to his own learning and development by training regularly and staying connected to the broader Schools of Kung Fu by the IWKA system led by SiFu Sergio Iadarola, who holds the rank of Grandmaster. He also visits the Schools of Kung Fu by the IWKA headquarters in Croydon to further his own training and ensure his teaching reflects the highest standards.

At Schools of Kung Fu Portsmouth, Nicholas blends traditional Wing Chun principles with a modern, approachable teaching style. He takes pride in helping each student discover the transformative power of martial arts, fostering a community built on respect, support, and a shared passion for learning.
